As you may remember, the Journal reported a few weeks ago that the venerable Encinal Market was being sold. But there was no word about whether Joe Scalise Jr. & Sons Butcher Shop, which has served up fresh meat, fish and more out of a corner of the store since 1989, will remain. We called Mr. Scalise to get the skinny. And it sounds like they plan to stay.
“The meat department is going to be here, as usual,” Scalise said. “After 73 years -” (Scalise’s father started the butcher shop in 1935 out of the Chestnut-Encinal Market) “- we’re sticking around.”
Now if we could just get them to start selling those scrumptious chicken parmesan sausages we used to buy there …
