It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s …
So we were driving home from Bladium on Saturday when my son spots a rather large, white dirigible flying toward San Francisco, at some indeterminate distance east of the McDonald’s on Webster Street. We didn’t have anything else going on, I’m always looking to encourage his curiosity and what the heck, you don’t see that every day. So we followed the thing back toward Bladium until it headed out over the Bay Bridge.
The next night the hubby spotted this wire story on CNN offering an explanation for the sighting: Apparently a new company called Airship Ventures is planning to offer rides from Moffett Field in Mountain View and from Oakland International Airport starting at $495 for an hour, and they were flying the ship home to its new home at Moffett (the company will be based out of the old Bachelor Officers Quarters – now there’s an interesting idea for future Alameda Point).
We called Airship Ventures to confirm that this was indeed their 246-foot zeppelin floating over the Island (how many could there be?).
“That was our grand entrance into San Francisco,” the company’s Beth Pursley confirmed.
