Demo permit for OSH?
In case you missed it, Tuesday’s Journal has a piece from its estimable former editor, Lucinda Ryan, about the kerfuffle over the potential demolition of the old Safeway building at Alameda Towne Centre for the Orchard Supply Hardware that is slated to move in. (We’d link, but it’s not online as of this writing.)
Ryan reports that the city issued a modified demolition permit for the store last week, and that the folks with Harsch Investment Properties, who own Towne Centre, should know later this week whether the building will be razed.
We chatted with Encinal Hardware owner and OSH opponent Philip Jaber last week, after he posted a comment on Eve Pearlman’s Alameda Journal blog about the permit. He expressed frustration at what he sees as a potential end run around the normal approval process for such a development.
We’ll get you more on this one as it comes.
