UPDATE 2:40 P.M.: We just got a note from our local Coast Guard folks saying they have initiated a cleanup in the Oakland Estuary of gas spilled in the accident. They’re currently estimating that about 10 gallons of gas spilled into the Bay. Sounds like National Response Corporation Environmental Services – they’ve got an office out at the naval base – was called in to help with the cleanup, which the Coasties say should be completed today or tomorrow.

Just to update you all, it looks like the Chronicle is reporting that I-880 South is going to be closed through tonight’s commute, though the folks at Caltrans are hoping it will reopen by tomorrow morning. The road was closed after a tanker truck crashed and exploded near 16th Avenue.

We checked the 511 transit site, and it says the road was closed between the Bay Bridge and 23rd Avenue exits. (It also says the 980 was closed; we checked Caltrans’ road conditions page, and it shows it being open).

If anything changes, we’ll let you know.
