Your weekend: Ghosts and Girls
“Ghosts & Girls,” which sold out Rhythmix Cultural Works on its first outing in May, is making a return engagement at 8 p.m. Saturday. It’s a staging of “The Legend of the Morning Glory,” a love story about a powerful samurai’s daughter who falls for a boy from a poor family, written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon, a 17th century dramatist who is apparently regarded as one of Japan’s greatest. The show is a family affair, featuring the husband/wife team of storyteller Brenda Wong Aoki and musical director Mark Izu, plus dance by son KK Aoki Izu. It’s also got the taiko drums of Maze Daiko and flutist Stephen Schultz. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Rhythmix is at 2513 Blanding Ave.; their phone is 865-5060. You can get more information on the show right here.
