All quiet on the ballot front
Well folks, the first deadline for local candidacy filings for the November 4 election has passed, and it looks like we’ve got four people running for two City Council seats: Incumbents Marie Gilmore and Doug deHaan, school board Trustee Tracy Jensen and newcomer Justin Harrison, who has worked for non-profits according to his website.
Treasurer Kevin Kennedy and Auditor Kevin Kearney will run unopposed.
Since School Board President Bill Schaff isn’t running again, the filing deadline for school board seats is extended until Wednesday. So far, incumbents Janet Gibson and (update!) David Forbes, former Washington School principal Nielsen Tam and Ron Mooney, who has been very active in passing two school parcel taxes and other school issues, have made it official.
And in the race for our local seat on the East Bay Municipal Utility District board, Susi Ostlund appears to be the only person so far who has filed her papers to run. Not sure yet what the deal is with incumbent Doug Linney – county records as of 5:03 p.m. show he has yet to file. We’ll get back to you on that when we have something more definitive.
