Your weekend: To the Borders!
Okay, so I’m late enough on this that all the good plays on words are taken. And I know, Borders is Just Another Chain Store and Definitely Not As Good As Books Inc. That said, the store has a lot of cool stuff going on for its grand opening this weekend (and an escalator, per John Knox White). And it’s all free. For the body, there’s a salsa dancing demonstration at 7 p.m. Friday and a book signing at 11 a.m. Saturday with Dr. Michael F. Roizen, coauthor of “You: The Owners Manual” (he’s got a new DVD out, “You: Steps for Extending Your Warranty”). For the soul, there’s music from jazz/wing/gypsy group Douce Ambiance at 8 p.m. Friday, soulster Nia Jade at 6 p.m. Saturday at acoustic combo Euphonia at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. For the mind, they’ve got Method cleaning cofounder Eric Ryan at 6 p.m. Friday and former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown at 3 p.m. Saturday. And for the kids, there’s Strawberry Shortcake and Buki the Clown at 3 and 4 p.m. Friday, Clifford at 4 p.m. Saturday and Dora the Explorer at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. And there’s free candy. The whole lineup is here. Enjoy!
