Alameda Theatre marquee damaged
A Pepsi truck making a delivery to the painstakingly restored Alameda Theatre slammed into its marquee this morning, causing a yet-to-be-estimated amount of damage. Theater operator Kyle Conner said the Pepsi driver was making a delivery to the newly reopened theater at about 8:30 this morning when it slammed into the marquee. He said his staff have cleaned up and contained the damage so the marquee can continue to be safely operated; he’s figuring out what the repairs will cost and how long they’ll take. “We now have the electrical contained so we can use the marquee as much as possible,” Conner said this afternoon. Conner was (understandably) frustrated but remained positive. “We’ve cleared bigger hurdles than this,” he said. “It’s a little bit of an eyesore. But people will forget all about it when they go into the theater.” More to come on this; in the meantime, John Knox White at Stop, Drop and Roll – who broke this story – has photos of the damage.
