Water rationing to come?
For those of you who didn’t catch it in the Chronicle last week, it looks like the East Bay may be facing a summer of water rationing. According to the Chron’s story, we got off to a good start with a wet January and February, but had a dry March and April – giving us half the snowpack runoff into our primary reservoir we had been getting. That, according to the Chron’s Meredith May, could mean restrictions on watering lawns and washing cars or rationing outright. The East Bay Municipal Utilities District, which controls our water, could vote for any of these options on May 13. You can get an Alameda take on the story (with a nifty plug for Ploughshares Nursery) at Alamedans contributor Doug Biggs‘ Biggs City blog, here.
