The circus is coming!
Clowns and jugglers and acrobats (oh my!). Next Sunday, April 27, Alameda daddy/clown extraordinaire Jeff Raz brings us his fourth annual Circus for Arts in the Schools, a fundraiser for arts programs in Alameda schools, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Kofman Auditorium, 2200 Central Avenue. The long list of performers include Ringmaster Raz, star of Cirque du Soleil’s 2007 Corteo show and director of the Clown Conservatory at Circus Center in San Francisco (Eve Pearlman did a lovely feature on him in the Journal, here); acrobats Xiao Hong Weng and Jennings McCown; Zaccho Dance Theater; and Prescott Circus Theater. Some of the talent on tap in Alameda’s schools will be on display as well: the Lincoln Middle School juggling program, Lincoln principal Judy Goodwin and Paden principal Tom Rust are on the bill. All this and more and the tickets are just 10 bucks for the kids, $12.50 for adults ($15 at the door). The program funds an arts program at Paden, Otis and Washington elementary schools. Tickets are available at Toy Safari, 1410 Park Street; Paden Elementary, 444 Central Avenue; and online here. More information on the event is available here.
