Do you love pancakes? And education? If the answer is yes to even just one of these questions, you should plan to attend the Kiwanis of Alameda’s 58th Annual Pancake Breakfast, which is from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, May 18 at the Elks Lodge, 2255 Santa Clara Avenue third floor. This year’s breakfast is a fundraiser for the Alameda Education Foundation, which subsidizes after-school enrichment programs, runs an adopt-a-classroom program to pay for teacher supplies and has of late been advocating hard for a better funding base for our public schools. Besides pancakes, eggs, sausage and other breakfast goodies, the event will also include guest appearances by Raider personalities, a raffle and prizes. The organizers of this event strongly encourage folks to buy tickets in advance to guarantee their seats. Tickets are $10 each, and kids under 5 eat free. You can buy tickets online here or by calling 764-1472. (Tickets purchased after May 11 will be held at “will call” at the door.) The event is supported by Nob Hill Foods, Peet’s Coffee & Tea and Alameda Magazine.
