No to Nea
Last night, the Alameda County Board of Education “reluctantly” voted 6-0 to uphold the Alameda school board’s denial of Nea Community Learning Center’s charter application. County board staff found the application by Nea (the same folks who run the Alameda Community Learning Center) had major holes, including a lack of details about its K-6 and 6-12 programs. Staff also questioned the financial assumptions the charter applicants made, particularly their expectation that the district would provide special education, facilities and other services. It’s not yet clear whether the Nea folks will exercise their option to appeal to the state.
