If you thought folks were done screaming about cuts to the schools budget after last week’s budget-a-go-go … think again. The Island just got this in the inbox:

3/11 ~ URGENT ACTION is NEEDED ~ Please forward to as many Alameda residents as possible.

A regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting will take place this evening, Tues., 3/11 at 6:30 PM at City Hall, and AUSD staff will present their recommendation for prioritization for Board review on “Reinstatement of Budget Reduction Items: Prioritization Based on Potential New Parcel Tax Revenue” which are listed below.
Follow these easy steps to let the Board of Education know that you support reinstating the $265,000 funding to the High School Athletic Program/Swim Centers in “Tier 1”:

Please note: The Board may vote to approve staff recommendations at either the 3/25 or the 4/8 meeting.

1) Log on to www.alameda.k12.ca.us
2) Click on “Board of Education” on the left ~ fourth item down
3) Click on the “click here to send a message that reaches each member of the Board of Education” ~ its in blue and italicized ~ right above the roster.

The full agenda and additional information is available at: www.mikemcmahon.info/agenda.htm

Alameda PTA prez Trish Spencer is also urging folks to action; in a note reposted to the Alameda Parents Network list, she urges parents to make sure that cut items that don’t appear on the list will actually be reinstated. From the note:

I would also suggest that anyone that’s voting for the parcel tax for
anything in particular, look to see that it’s in these tiers.

Should be a hot one tonight …
