Encinal High spared the budget ax – for now
Looks like the school board listened to angry West End parents who felt the budget cuts the board is set to approve Tuesday unfairly targeted Encinal High. New documents from the district show that the school’s junior ROTC program is off the table for now. And a vice principal position that was set to be axed will become a teaching position. (The school has two vice principals). But the price paid for this change is class size reduction for all of grade three. And most of the rest of the changes proposed earlier, including the elimination of sports and closure of swim centers – and school closures – are still on the table. All in all, the district is looking at approving about $4 million in cuts for the next two school years. They’ll meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the multipurpose room of Chipman Middle School. The staff report detailing the proposed cuts is here: http://mikemcmahon.info/BOE030408BudgetRecommendations.pdf .
