You gotta be in it to win it
Well, it’s official: Kindergartners slated to enter Edison and Franklin schools this fall will be facing a lottery. The district has not yet set a date, spokeswoman Donna Fletcher said. The lottery was delayed because the district was trying to find ways to fix the overenrollment problem at some of its schools, she said. The board deadlocked on the district’s plan to increase capacity at Edison, Otis and Ruby Bridges by shrinking or eliminating day care space (though Edison’s numbers put them in line for a lottery anyway). No other schools have lotteries scheduled, Fletcher said. Per the district’s new lottery policy, kids with siblings already attending their neighborhood school get first dibs on kindergarten spots; the rest go into the lottery. We’ll keep you posted as the dates roll in.
